Physiotherapy Treatment for Hip Pain
In your first appointment, I’ll:
-
Listen to your symptoms, goals and daily demands.
-
Assess movement, strength and loading to pinpoint what’s driving your pain.
-
Adapt aggravating tasks so you can stay active while symptoms settle.
I’ll then build a tailored plan, which may include:
-
Progressive strengthening (gluteal/hip complex) and movement retraining
-
Load management for walking, stairs, running or sport
-
Gait and stairs coaching; return-to-run progressions if relevant
-
Sleep/side-lying and daily-task strategies
-
Hands-on treatment where helpful
-
Online support if you prefer virtual sessions
👉 Physiotherapy is typically the best first-line option before considering injections or surgery.

Hip Pain FAQs
Do I need an X-ray or scan for hip pain?
Not always. In your initial assessment I’ll clinically reason whether imaging is appropriate and whether it would change your plan. If needed, I can arrange private imaging or liaise with your GP, and I’ll explain what the results mean for your rehab.
Can hip osteoarthritis still improve with physio?
Yes. Strength, activity progressions and education can reduce pain and improve function, even when OA shows on scans. I’ll tailor a plan around your goals—from stairs and walking to hobbies and sport.
Is running possible with hip pain?
Often yes with the right approach. I’ll help you adjust volume, terrain and strength work, then build a graded return-to-run plan so you can progress safely.
