Physiotherapy Treatment for Sciatica
In your first appointment, I’ll assess how you move, identify positions that settle symptoms, and build a plan that keeps you active while pain settles. Your treatment may include:
-
Directional/preference-based exercises and progressions
-
Graded walking and activity (pacing around flares)
-
Symptom-relief positions for sitting, work and sleep
-
Hands-on treatment if appropriate
-
Online support if you prefer virtual sessions
👉 Most people improve without injections or surgery. Physiotherapy is typically the best first-line approach.

Sciatica FAQs
How long does sciatica take to improve?
It varies. Many people improve over weeks to a few months. I’ll guide positions/exercises that settle nerve symptoms and help you build back activity confidently.
Do I need a scan for sciatica?
Often no. I’ll assess and discuss if imaging is appropriate and likely to alter your plan. If indicated, I can arrange private imaging or liaise with your GP and explain next steps.
When is sciatica an emergency?
Seek urgent help for saddle numbness, bladder/bowel changes, or progressive leg weakness. Otherwise, I’ll guide you with a clear, staged plan.
