Physiotherapy Treatment for Foot & Ankle Pain
In your first appointment, I’ll:
-
Listen to your symptoms, goals and activity demands.
-
Assess movement, strength and loading (including calf/foot mechanics).
-
Adapt aggravating tasks so you can stay active while symptoms settle.
I’ll then build a tailored plan, which may include:
-
Progressive strengthening (calf/ankle/foot intrinsics)
-
Load management for walking, stairs, running or sport
-
Return-to-run and hop progressions (as appropriate)
-
Footwear/orthoses advice where useful
-
Hands-on treatment if helpful
-
Online support if you prefer virtual sessions
👉 Physiotherapy is typically the best first-line option before considering injections or surgery.

Foot & Ankle Pain FAQs
How long does an ankle sprain take to heal?
It depends on severity. Mild sprains often improve over 2–6 weeks; more significant sprains take longer. I’ll guide swelling control, range, balance and strength, then a graded return to walking, running and sport.
Do I need an X-ray or scan for foot/ankle pain?
Not always. In your initial assessment I’ll clinically reason whether imaging is appropriate and whether it would change your plan. If needed, I can arrange private imaging or liaise with your GP, and I’ll explain what the results mean for your rehab. Please seek urgent care after severe trauma, obvious deformity or if you cannot bear weight.
Can I run with plantar fasciitis or Achilles pain?
Often yes with the right plan. I’ll help you adjust volume, terrain and cadence, strengthen the calf/foot, and use simple pain guidelines with a graded progression so you can return safely.
